The remote Sensing group of the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, led by Lev Desinov, based on images from the International Space Station, established the cause of the catastrophic flooding in the city of Krymsk in the summer of 2012.

Lev Desinov is not the first time involved in the investigation of the causes of natural disasters.

After the tragedy in the Karmadon gorge in 2002, when the film crew of Sergei Bodrov Jr. died, he did not agree with the conclusions of his colleagues and resolutely opposed the opinion of not only Russian, but also foreign experts.

What really happened to the Kolka Glacier?

How important is it to study glaciers?

What role does space play in these studies?

What else does the Earth Remote Sensing Group do?

Candidate of Geographical Sciences Lev Vasilyevich Desinov answers the questions of the presenter Maria Kulakovskaya.
